Materials and care

Polished, honed, thermal or rock-face granite finishes

Choose a granite finish by location, cleaning method, required visual effect and the project’s performance requirements. A polished surface reflects light, a honed surface is more matte, a thermal finish has pronounced microtexture, and a rock face creates deep relief. No finish name alone guarantees slip performance or compliance with a standard — that requires testing of the actual product.

Bukynske gabbro: difference from granite and batch approval

Bukynske gabbro is a dark intrusive igneous rock often sold alongside “black granites” in commercial practice, but gabbro and granite are not the same rock in geological terminology. An order should not rely on a name and photograph alone: approve a physical sample from the current batch, the required finish, cutting direction and permitted variation between pieces.

Holovyne labradorite: approving pattern and optical effect

Holovyne labradorite should be selected from a physical sample of the current batch in the required finish, not from a name or a single photograph. Natural stone varies in pattern, tone, grain and response to light, so this page describes an approval process rather than promising a permanent shade, property or availability.

Leznykivske granite: red character and batch approval

Leznykivske material is often recognised by a warm red or pink-red character with contrasting grains, but the name does not guarantee one exact shade. Natural stone varies between batches, while polishing, honing, thermal treatment and natural fracture show colour differently. Before ordering, approve a physical sample from the current batch, the required finish, the permitted pattern range and the product format.

Pokostivka granite: appearance, finishes and batch approval

Pokostivka stone is commonly selected for a restrained grey character and visible grain, but the commercial name does not guarantee an identical pattern in every slab or paving unit. Geological documents may describe the Pokostivske deposit as a granodiorite deposit, while trade usage often calls the material Pokostivka granite. A specific order should approve a physical sample from the current batch together with the product format and finish.

Ukrainian granite colours and how to approve a shade

Ukrainian natural stone may appear grey, red, pink-red, dark or greenish-grey, but a material name does not guarantee one permanent shade. Appearance depends on mineral composition, the particular part of the natural mass, batch, cutting direction, finish, lighting and moisture. An order should therefore approve a physical sample from the current batch in the required finish rather than a “colour from a screen”.

Pokostivka or Leznykivske granite: which should you choose?

Choose Pokostivka when you need a neutral grey stone with a restrained, even grain, and Leznykivske when the design needs a visible red-pink accent. Both are used for paving, cladding, architectural and memorial work, but the final choice should be made from physical samples of the current batch and the agreed surface finish.

How to care for a granite memorial

First identify the memorial material and condition, paint, gilding, engraving fills and other coatings. Bare-stone care and lettering care may differ. Use a product only after confirming compatibility; unstable lettering needs advice from the fabricator or conservator.
