Granite or marble: which to choose

Granite and marble differ in origin, hardness and how they behave in different conditions. We explain which is stronger, which is more often chosen for an outdoor monument, and how to approve the stone before ordering.

How to order granite slabs and plates in bulk

A bulk order for plates or slabs should begin not with a request for a “volume discount” but with an agreed cutting list: stone and current batch, quantities, dimensions, thickness, tolerances, finish, edges, marking, packing, loading method and receiving inspection. This page does not claim fixed NIKA GRAN wholesale discounts, permanent stock or universal standard dimensions. Each batch is quoted from the technical brief.

What determines the cost of granite products

The cost of a granite product is not determined by a square-metre figure alone. A quotation is affected by the stone and current batch, blank dimensions, thickness, surface finish, number of cuts and edges, holes and cut-outs, drawing complexity, cutting waste, packing, transport and unloading. An accurate offer can only be prepared from the same specification; otherwise different packages of material and work are being compared.

Choosing granite for a barbecue and outdoor worktop

Stone for a barbecue area should not be selected from the phrase “it withstands fire”. A worktop, module cladding, the area near heat, joints, sealant and the supporting construction all operate under different conditions. Stone, thickness, finish, distance from the heat source and fixing details should be approved by the designer or responsible contractor. A photograph of a finished outdoor kitchen does not prove fire resistance, food-contact suitability or thermal-shock performance for a particular product.

How to choose granite spheres for an entrance, courtyard or landscape

A granite sphere should not be selected by diameter alone. Approve its function, scale beside the architecture, stone and finish, support or anchoring concept, equipment access and safe relationship to movement. There is no universal size, weight, foundation or installation detail — the project defines these for the particular location.

Polished, honed, thermal or rock-face granite finishes

Choose a granite finish by location, cleaning method, required visual effect and the project’s performance requirements. A polished surface reflects light, a honed surface is more matte, a thermal finish has pronounced microtexture, and a rock face creates deep relief. No finish name alone guarantees slip performance or compliance with a standard — that requires testing of the actual product.

Bukynske gabbro: difference from granite and batch approval

Bukynske gabbro is a dark intrusive igneous rock often sold alongside “black granites” in commercial practice, but gabbro and granite are not the same rock in geological terminology. An order should not rely on a name and photograph alone: approve a physical sample from the current batch, the required finish, cutting direction and permitted variation between pieces.

Holovyne labradorite: approving pattern and optical effect

Holovyne labradorite should be selected from a physical sample of the current batch in the required finish, not from a name or a single photograph. Natural stone varies in pattern, tone, grain and response to light, so this page describes an approval process rather than promising a permanent shade, property or availability.

Leznykivske granite: red character and batch approval

Leznykivske material is often recognised by a warm red or pink-red character with contrasting grains, but the name does not guarantee one exact shade. Natural stone varies between batches, while polishing, honing, thermal treatment and natural fracture show colour differently. Before ordering, approve a physical sample from the current batch, the required finish, the permitted pattern range and the product format.

Pokostivka granite: appearance, finishes and batch approval

Pokostivka stone is commonly selected for a restrained grey character and visible grain, but the commercial name does not guarantee an identical pattern in every slab or paving unit. Geological documents may describe the Pokostivske deposit as a granodiorite deposit, while trade usage often calls the material Pokostivka granite. A specific order should approve a physical sample from the current batch together with the product format and finish.
