Selection and applications

What determines the cost of granite products

The cost of a granite product is not determined by a square-metre figure alone. A quotation is affected by the stone and current batch, blank dimensions, thickness, surface finish, number of cuts and edges, holes and cut-outs, drawing complexity, cutting waste, packing, transport and unloading. An accurate offer can only be prepared from the same specification; otherwise different packages of material and work are being compared.

Why the product name does not provide a price

A “step”, “worktop” or “slab” can describe components of very different size, thickness and level of completion. One offer may include finished edges, cut-outs, marking and packing, while another includes only a rectangular blank. The question “how much is granite?” therefore needs to become an item schedule.

Factor How it changes the quotation scope
Stone and batch blank availability, pattern and physical-sample approval
Size and thickness required block or slab format, weight and cutting layout
Surface finish a separate processing operation and visual control
Edges and chamfers linear metres and profile
Holes and cut-outs drawings, radii, tolerances and processing sequence
Complex shape template, programming, cutting and waste
Packing crate design, separators, marking and edge protection
Logistics volume, weight, address, vehicle and unloading method

Information needed for comparable quotations

Send a drawing or item table with units. State the stone type, desired finish, thickness, dimensions, treatment of each edge, holes, tolerances, quantity and use. For steps, list treads, risers, landings and exposed edges. For a worktop, provide sink and appliance models and the support arrangement. For paving, state format, texture, area, layout and an allowance justified by the drawing.

Also provide the address, vehicle access, stopping place, unloading equipment and receiving contact. A preliminary figure without this information may change when logistics are clarified.

Comparing two commercial offers

Compare the same stone or approved alternatives, thickness, finish, edge lengths, holes, tolerances, packing and supply terms. Check whether tax, crates, delivery, unloading and installation are included. This page does not claim a universal NIKA GRAN installation service; the scope is recorded in the individual offer.

A low opening figure does not prove a lower final cost if operations are excluded. Equally, a more expensive stone may not be the main factor: complex cut-outs, profiles and packing can account for substantial fabrication work. This article publishes no price list, markup percentages or “cheaper” claims; an individual quotation is required.

Request checklist

Prepare the project name; current drawing revision; units; item schedule; stone or permitted alternatives; physical sample; finish; tolerances; edges; holes; packing; address; and preferred delivery window without treating it as a guarantee. For repeated components, provide a marking system so the installer can identify each position.

An illustrative quotation request without invented prices

This is an example request structure for a worktop, not a real order, price list or fabrication drawing. It identifies information the customer must provide instead of inventing measurements.

  • Product: kitchen worktop with a sink cut-out.
  • Drawing: attach the current measured drawing with units.
  • Stone: Pokostivka as a preference; shade, batch and availability require confirmation.
  • Finish: polished as a preference, subject to sample approval.
  • Edges and holes: mark exposed edges, sink and tap models and the cutting template.
  • Supply: provide the exact address, access and unloading method.
  • Quote separately: stone and fabrication, packing, transport and unloading; identify included and excluded work and taxes.

This request allows missing information to be clarified before offers are compared. A changed sink model or drawing requires recalculating the affected items, not treating the old and new totals as quotations for an identical order.

Frequently asked questions

Why is there no fixed price for every product on the website?

Most components are made to dimensions, while processing, stone, batch, packing and logistics differ. A fixed number without a specification would be misleading.

Can a preliminary estimate be made from a photograph?

A photograph helps identify the product type, but it does not replace dimensions, thickness, edge treatment, holes and supply conditions. Any early estimate should be labelled preliminary.

What is most often omitted from a request?

Visible-edge treatment, tolerances, equipment models for cut-outs, marking, crates, unloading and the actual receiving point.
