Selection and applications

For outdoor steps, select finish together with drainage, gradient and maintenance. The labels flamed, sawn or split do not guarantee safety when wet, dirty or icy; verify project requirements for the actual product.

The word “granite” does not determine whether paving will be slippery: that depends on the surface finish, gradient, water, contamination and maintenance.

Choose split setts for a pronounced textured appearance, sawn setts when consistent geometry matters, and sawn-and-split setts when you want sawn sides with a split top. The final specification should reflect traffic loads, surface evenness and the finish of the walking face—not the product name alone.
