Divide the barbecue into functional zones
Mark on the drawing where food is prepared, hot cookware is placed, heat is generated and stone is only decorative. Each zone needs different checks. The NIKA GRAN granite barbecue product page describes stone work surfaces, cladding and modules; it is not a standard oven design.
| Area | What to approve |
|---|---|
| Work surface | current stone sample, finish, edges, cut-outs and care product |
| Near heat | distance, temperature regime, insulation, joints and construction |
| Sink or tap | cut-out drawings, reinforcement, sealing and service access |
| Module cladding | substrate, fixing method, slab format and movement joints |
| Exposed area | water, frost, ultraviolet exposure, staining and seasonal cover |
What cannot be decided from the stone name
A granite or gabbro name is not a ready-made certificate for food contact or use beside open flame. The current batch, surface condition, sealing system, adhesive and joint materials, support construction and operating regime all matter. The Natural Stone Institute recommends trivets or mats for hot cookware and says that a sealer used in a food-preparation area should be checked for suitability for that use. This is general care guidance, not a guarantee for every barbecue assembly.
For work surfaces, compare granite countertops, bar counters and granite tables. The visual result also depends on finish: polished, honed, thermal and rock-face surfaces look and clean differently.
Prepare a technical brief
State module dimensions, exact cut-out drawings, equipment type, distance from heat, covering conditions, desired texture, edges, joints, substrate, lifting method and installation access. If the equipment manufacturer specifies protective distances or materials, transfer them into the drawing without arbitrary reduction.
NIKA GRAN can quote stone components from an agreed brief, but this article does not claim oven, gas or electrical design, a universal installation service, fire resistance of the complete system or food safety of every sealant.
Care after commissioning
Remove contamination with a product compatible with the particular stone and protective treatment. Acids, strong alkalis and abrasives may affect the surface or sealant. Blot oil and sauces rather than spreading them. See the granite worktop care guide for related guidance. Before each season, inspect joints, edges, fixings and areas beside equipment.
Frequently asked questions
Can a hot grill be placed directly on granite?
Do not rely on the general stone name. Use a trivet and follow the equipment manufacturer’s requirements and the design solution for the particular surface.
Is every sealer suitable for a barbecue worktop?
No. For food-preparation areas, check the stated use, instructions and compatibility of the specific product with the stone, temperature and outdoor conditions.
Can stone be ordered without an equipment drawing?
A preliminary estimate is possible, but production dimensions, cut-outs and details require an exact drawing and equipment models.
