Granite fireplaces

Natural stone fireplace surrounds and cladding frame a fireplace according to an individual design. The proportions of the surround, the stone pattern and the arrangement of pieces shape its appearance in the interior. The pieces suit interiors where the fireplace is a compositional centre. This category describes stone components, not heating equipment or a complete technical system.

Format and finish follow the task. Narrow elements hold the line, wider planes carry weight. Polishing gives depth and gloss, honing a calmer, matt surface. A polished surface suits settings that need depth of colour; honed suits a more restrained one. Appearance depends on the stone, the finish and how the planes are divided between the pieces: the combination of stone and texture determines how the surround looks in the space.

The surround can be made from Pokostivske, Leznykivske, Didkovychi or Maslavske granite, while any other stone is supplied to order. Each variety has its own tone and grain: even grey, warm red, brown-pink or olive-green. Properties, finishes and applications appear on the individual stone pages.

Before production, the stone, finish, dimensions and component list are agreed. The specification sets out length, width, thickness and packaging, while format, tolerances and weight are confirmed before work starts. Colour, finish and dimensions are checked against the approved sample. For a specification, send a surround drawing, the equipment dimensions, a cladding sketch and the desired surface appearance. Add the equipment manufacturer's requirements for adjacent materials.

Because the surround has to coordinate with the equipment, the manufacturer's requirements for adjacent materials matter. Appearance alone does not establish the technical performance of the stone, so the suitability of a stone and design for the project conditions needs separate confirmation. The surround also has to match the overall interior scheme and sit well with the other finishes.

Cladding can stand alone or complement the surround within one design. Where an interior is finished in a single material, granite bathtubs and countertops are ordered alongside the surrounds.
