General sequence
The sequence and table below apply only to sound bare stone after compatibility checks. They are not instructions for paint, gilding, inscription fills or damaged heritage monuments.
- Remove debris and leaves from the surface.
- Rinse the stone to lift dust.
- Use a mild detergent for stubborn soiling.
- Rinse the detergent off thoroughly with clean water.
- Dry with a soft cloth to avoid streaks.
| Soiling | Do | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Dust, pollen | water and a soft sponge | stiff brushes |
| Bird droppings | lift while wet, then rinse | leaving it for long periods |
| Moss and lichen | agree a method with a specialist; do not scrape | metal scrapers |
| Resin, wax | identify the substance and agree a compatible method | untested solvents |
| Limescale traces | mild cleaner per instructions | strong acids |
Difficult cases
If the surface has lost gloss, or deep scratches or chemical marks have appeared, home polishing can make things worse. In such cases it is safer to involve a stone workshop: a specialist will judge whether surface grinding is required.
Lettering may be cut into bare stone, painted, gilded or filled with another material. Do not automatically use the stone cleaner on these details. Confirm compatibility with the lettering fabricator; do not rub or wet unstable or flaking finishes without specialist advice.
What we produce
We make memorials, complexes and adjoining elements from Ukrainian granite — crosses, vases and benches with tables. Inscriptions, sizes and decorative elements are agreed before production starts.
Frequently asked questions
What should a memorial be washed with?
Use a compatible product as instructed for sound bare stone. Check lettering and coatings separately; the same advice does not automatically apply.
Can bathroom cleaners be used?
We do not recommend them: they often contain acids or abrasives that harm a polished finish.
Is sealing needed?
The product manufacturer or stone supplier decides for the specific finish. There is no single universal recommendation.
